Women’s Golf Drills Week 4: Mid-Irons & Swing Tempo
Mastering Mid-Irons and Finding Your Swing Rhythm
Welcome to Week 4 of your six-week journey to mastering your golf game! This week, we’re shifting focus to mid-irons and developing a consistent swing tempo. By the end of this practice block, you’ll feel more confident hitting approach shots and maintaining rhythm under pressure.
Why Mid-Irons Matter
Mid-irons are the workhorses of your bag. Whether you’re setting up for a par-3 or recovering from a tricky fairway lie, mastering these clubs gives you control and consistency.
Drill 1: The 9-to-3 Swing
Set up with a 7-iron. Focus on swinging back to 9 o’clock and through to 3 o’clock, maintaining balance and tempo. This builds rhythm and prevents over-swinging.
Drill 2: Tempo Training with a Metronome
Download a free metronome app. Set it between 70–75 BPM. Align your takeaway and downswing with the beat to train a smooth, repeatable rhythm.
Drill 3: 3-Ball Challenge
Line up three balls. Hit each one with the same swing thought and rhythm. The goal is consistency—not distance. Track how many you strike cleanly in a row.
On-Course Practice
During your next round, pay attention to mid-iron approach shots. Pick specific targets and commit to tempo over power. Note your dispersion pattern—missing left, right, short, or long—and adjust club/aim accordingly.
